Hoya ‘Alena’ is a collector’s hybrid labeled VH-02-34, created in Indonesia. It was developed by crossing Hoya sp. ‘Rindu Rafflesia’ with Hoya crassipetiolata. The hybrid was bred by an Indonesian hoya grower as a combination of the wild, narrow-leaf form from Sumatra and the strongly veined leaves of H. crassipetiolata. The name ‘Alena’ comes from the Karo language (Indonesia), from the expression “Andikoh Jilena”, which can be translated as “wow, how beautiful”.
